Marvel vs. Capcom 3, omg guys Marvel vs. Capcom 3

So Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and the Capcom VS. Fighting series was kind of a big deal. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Mega Man and wolverine face off?  OK so they were very over the top fighting games and in the case of MvC2 quite unbalanced at times, but there was just something about them that made them be an absolute blast to play even if you had no idea what you're doing. The fighting was easy to grasp but had lots of depth and crazy combos to it and each successive vs. game just got better and better.

Then the worst happened. No more Marvel license for Capcom. We got some other decent vs. games, Marvel vs. Snk, Some Anime company vs. Capcom, but there's only one thing that would satisfy people:

Its been a really long wait and I don't know how Capcom got the licensing stuff worked out, but I guarantee you the success of the recent downloadable versions of MvC2 certainly helped. The series certainly never had problem making money, and there's clearly a HUGE market for a third game, so good for them for making it happen. Capcom has been putting out a lot of good stuff lately.

So what can we see from this trailer? Not a lot, but Capcom has already said it (or at least implied) that the game will be in the style of Street Fighter 4, which considering how fantastic SF4 is, that's great news. You can probably tell by now, but I am an unabashed fan of 2D fighting games (though I do enjoy Soul Calibur and the latter Mortal Kombat games) so yet another new 2D style fighting game to go with the soon to be released Super Street Fighter 4 is fantastic news. I'm going to do another post specifically about this, but a lot of lost game genres are making a come back and its cool to be retro these days. Even if MvC3 is nothing but MvC2 with shiny graphics and some new characters but no gameplay changes, the thing is going to sell like crazy and likely will be completely awesome.

Now let's hope I can use my dream team of Super Skrull, The Sentry, and a Cat from Monster Hunter....

Also speaking of retro:
